Live or Virtual, Macon Delegate Excited for 2020 DNC Convention
Thursday, August 20th, 2020
The 2020 Democratic National Convention is bittersweet for Macon activist and attorney Stephanie Woods Miller. Miller has served as a Democratic delegate representative for the 2NDCongressional District covering Macon in 2012, 2014 and now in 2020. This year, for the first time she will be a virtual attendee.
“I am very excited to have been chosen by the Biden campaign to be a delegate to the 2020 Democratic National Convention. One of the proudest moments of my life was to be a Georgia Delegate in 2007 and to cast my vote for Barack Obama to be the Presidential Nominee for the Democratic Party.”
She is excited for the historic moment whether it’s in person in Milwaukee where the 2020 DNC Convention was scheduled, or as it is being held virtually on screens around the country. “I wish that we could gather together for this momentous occasion but the reality of Covid-19 requires that we do what is safe and responsible and so I will be cheering and waving my pom poms from home and enjoying the virtual convention,” Miller said.
Miller currently serves as the Chief Deputy Clerk of Bibb County Superior Court Clerk’s Office in Macon, Georgia. On January 7, 2013 Miller was sworn in as the first African American, as well as the youngest person to hold the office of Chief Deputy Clerk. Her political efforts have been bolstered at home as well. As a result of her deep concern about the issue of blight in Macon, as well as, access to nutritional food, Miller is currently in the process of starting, Sage Sanctuary a community garden in the Huguenin Heights area of Macon, as well as the Napier Heights Neighborhood Association. She also serves on the board of Historic Macon Foundation.
But the historical context of the convention bears no weight on her excitement.
“There are not enough words to express how honored I feel to now cast my vote for Vice President Joe Biden to be the Presidential Nominee and for the first African American woman, Kamala Harris, to be a Vice Presidential candidate and not just because she is African American but because she is more than qualified to hold the seat.”
Miller is active in her community and committed to the increasing civic engagement and participation. Attorney Miller is an active member of the State Bar of, the Macon Bar Association, National League of Cities, National Association of Court Management, Georgia Council of Court Administrators, Board of Trustees-Historic Macon, as well as, Women Impacting Public Policy and the Council on Foreign Relations. Attorney Stephanie Woods Miller is a graduate of Florida A&M University-B.S.-Business Administration, Tulane Law School-Juris Doctorate and Wesleyan College-MBA.
