GDOT Awards Seven Contracts for Road and Bridge Construction Projects in West Central Georgia

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced it awarded contracts for seven projects in District 3 (West Central Georgia region). The project bids were received on July 17, 2020 and the contracts awarded to the lowest qualified bidders on July 31, 2020.

The projects are:

  • Bibb, Lamar, Monroe and Twiggs Counties: the project involves bridge rehabilitation at various locations in these counties. The contract was awarded to Comanche Construction of Georgia, LLC of Marietta, Georgia for $2.4 million. The project is expected to be completed by the middle of fall, 2022.

  • Bibb County: the project involves the resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation of 8.966 miles of Georgia 19 beginning at the Twiggs County line and extending to Georgia 11/Coliseum Drive. The contract was awarded to Reeves Construction Company of Macon, Georgia for $3.11 million. The project is expected to be completed by mid-summer, 2021. 

  • Henry and Clayton Counties: the project involves 6.095 miles of concrete and shoulder rehabilitation on Interstate 75 from south of Walt Stephens Road to south of Georgia 54. The contract was awarded to Webber, LLC of The Woodlands, Texas for $15.4 million. The project is expected to be completed by mid-summer, 2021.

  • Henry County: the project involves the construction of a diverging diamond interchange on Interstate 75 at Georgia 20. The contract was awarded to CMES, Inc. of Norcross, Georgia for $5.2 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of spring, 2022.

  • Henry and Newton Counties: the project involves the construction of a bridge and approaches on Georgia 81/Keys Road over South River. The contract was awarded to Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc. of Charleston, Tennessee for $4.3 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of fall, 2021.

  • Stewart and Webster Counties: the project involves the resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation of 8.061 miles of Georgia 27 from east of Georgia 520 to east of the Kinchafoonee Creek Bridge. The contract was awarded to Robinson Paving Company of Columbus, Georgia for $2.02 million. The project is expected to be completed by mid-summer, 2021.

  • Monroe County: the project involves the resurfacing of 10.522 miles of Interstate 75 from south of Pea Ridge Road to north of Georgia 42. The contract was awarded to C. W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc. for $10.8 million. The project is expected to be complete by mid-summer, 2021.

The contracts were seven of 29 awarded statewide on July 31. The state's largest single investment involved Henry and Clayton Counties' concrete and shoulder rehabilitation project on Interstate 75. The state's second largest contract, Monroe County's resurfacing of more than 10 miles of Interstate 75, was also located in west central Georgia.

The July awards bring the state of Georgia's total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2021 to $88 million, including Transportation Investment Act (TIA) projects, Design-Build and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2021 consists of the twelve months from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.
