Today Dashboard U.S. and NewTown Macon announced the second iteration of Bright City - an outdoor display of illuminated photographs depicting what makes Macon a unique community. Showcasing their take of Macon as a “Bright City,” photographers transform the everyday into something curious, illustrating the emotional state of this community.

“We’re excited to be back in Macon highlighting talented artists,” Dashboard’s Executive Director Beth Malone said. “This community has so much to offer, and Bright City gives us an opportunity to appreciate a snapshot of what makes it unique."

In 2019, NewTown partnered with Dashboard to create an art experience that would highlight the beautiful alley system that runs through Macon’s downtown area. Dashboard installed large light boxes along Second Street Lane to create a more inviting space for pedestrian traffic with images that engaged passersby with the unique character of Macon. The installation was met with huge success which prompted NewTown Macon to ask Dashboard to curate another show for 2020.

“Bright City captured the imagination of the public and Maconites begged for the show to be extended,” NewTown’s Director of Place Emily Hopkins said. “We are thrilled to work with Dash again to bring a new round of work to our alleys and highlight a different set of artists in one of our coolest public spaces.”

The alleyway installation will be on view from Friday, August 7, 2020 – Friday, August 13, 2021. An opening event will take place during First Friday on August 7 from 5-8pm. Sounds will be provided by DJ B3. All attendees are encouraged to wear a mask and observe social distancing guidelines. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Bright City is curated and produced by Dashboard, presented by NewTown Macon, and made possible with support from The Community Foundation of Central Georgia. The show features: Chance Allen, David Batterman, Chris Burns, Ashley Conlon, Frances de la Rosa, Michael Dove, Sydney Foster, Rachel Gambill, Kristin Hanlin, Curtis Hertwig, Zhairie’ Hightower, Dsto Moore, Matthew Odom, Mark Thompson, and Ruth Stanford.
