As the number of positive novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases increase statewide, it is imperative that Georgians continue to practice COVID Safe habits, including proper hand hygiene, social distancing and proper masking.

In order to encourage proper masking among young people, the primary age group currently testing positive for COVID-19, Navicent Health has launched the #whyImask social media challenge. The largest health system in the midstate, serving patients from 55 counties, Navicent Health challenges individuals, businesses, local government agencies and other healthcare providers to share videos on Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter explaining why they choose to mask.

Participants are asked to use the hashtag #whyImask and tag “The Medical Center, Navicent Health” on Facebook or @navicenthealth on Instagram and Twitter when they share their videos.

“We’re seeing the number of positive cases increase across the state, and unlike earlier this spring, we’re seeing an increase in the number of young people affected, particularly those in their 20’s and 30’s. We began the #whyImask challenge with our own medical residents, and their reasons for wearing masks in public were very compelling. We want to hear others’ stories as they take steps to protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19,” said Cyndey Busbee, Vice President of Public Affairs and Advocacy for Navicent Health.
