Congratulations to the following students for being awarded the Frank & Betty Gooden Estes Scholarship:

  • Cannon Oliver, Perry High School

  • Dorothy Paschal, Perry High School

  • Mahi Patel, The Westfield School

Alexander Frank Estes and his wife Betty Gooden Estes were devoted to their Georgia heritage and proud of the legacy left by their parents and extended family in the field of education. It was this attachment and their desires to help deserving students advance their education that led them to create The Frank and Betty Estes Scholarship Endowment Fund. In particular, this fund pays tribute to the father of Betty, James M. Gooden, superintendent of Perry High School from 1919-1937.

This scholarship rewards deserving students in Houston County who demonstrate high ethical and moral character and whose scholastic grades indicate an ability and desire for further learning.

Each scholarship recipient receives a $3,500 per year award renewable for four years and is administered by the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce.
