Friday, June 12th, 2020
Macon Volunteer Clinic (MVC) was awarded a 2020 Silver Rating from the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) Quality Standards Program. By self-attesting that MVC has certain policies and procedures in place, it is able to highlight its commitment to providing quality care to patients.
The mission of the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics is to ensure the medically underserved have access to affordable health care. The NAFC and its members are dedicated to ensuring that patients receive quality health care. To quantify and qualify the care provided at the Free and Charitable Clinic network, the NAFC formalized a set of Quality Standards for member organizations.
“Our staff and volunteers are immensely proud of this recognition of their commitment to quality care,” states Executive Director Nancy White. “There is immense need for our free medical and dental services to our neighbors. Many of our patients fall into the ‘coverage gap’ of making too much for Medicaid but not enough for assistance to help pay the premiums on the ACA plans. Because our community believes in and supports our mission, we are able to deliver care at the standards which this NAFC designation sets.”
NAFC Members voluntarily submit information to the NAFC on the various policies and procedures in place to attain their standards rating and attest/pledge that they successfully incorporate these standards within their organization.
NAFC Quality Standards elements include policies and procedures related to the following areas: Administrative, Enhanced Access and Continuity of Care, Identifying and Managing Patient Population information, Planning and Managing Care, Providing Self-Care Support and Community Resources, Tracking and Coordinating Care, and Measuring and Improving Performance.
Macon Volunteer Clinic was established in 2003 through generous donors and volunteers to provide free, high- quality health and dental care and medications to low-income, uninsured Bibb County adults. In 2019, it provided 6,615 patient encounters, 587 dental encounters, and $1,326,489 in medication assistance. Macon Volunteer Clinic is funded entirely through philanthropy.
