As Central Georgia businesses begin to reopen and community members start to venture more into public, government leaders and health experts are encouraging the public to continue to exercise caution and protect their health. The public is encouraged to continue to maintain a social distance and to wear a mask in certain public spaces. Due to a continuing shortage of masks available for purchase and increased demand, United Way of Central Georgia has created the “Mask Makers United” challenge with a goal of creating 2,000 masks (to begin). The challenge is for local sewers (individuals and groups) looking for a volunteer opportunity where they can give back from the comfort of their own home.

United Way of Central Georgia has currently identified 16 organizations with a total need of 1,385 masks. The organizations are listed below:
