Macon Sets Jobs Record in December

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Macon tied another record for jobs in December
According to preliminary data, Macon also saw increases in employment and workforce across the five-county metropolitan statistical area (MSA).
“This was a very positive year for the state,” Butler said. “We saw over-the-year growth in almost every MSA, and our key jobs sectors continue to grow as the economy expands.
In Macon, the unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage points to rest at 3 percent in December. A year ago, the rate was 4 percent.
Macon ended December with 105,400 jobs- tying the all-time high. The number stayed the same over the month but increased by 700 jobs when compared to the same time a year ago.
The labor force increased in December by 269. The total was 104,238. That number has decreased by 797 when compared to last December.
Macon ended December with 101,078 employed residents. That number went up by 159 over the month and increased by 279 when compared to the same time a year ago.
The number of unemployment claims went up by 35 percent in December. When compared to last December, claims were down by about 8 percent.
