Macon Rotary Members Partner with Middle Georgia Community Food Bank to Feed 1000

Members from the Rotary Club of Downton Macon has a new Local Hunger Initiative. Their goal is to feed 1000 families with a turkey, Thanksgiving meal ingredients and 1-2 weeks’ worth of food.
The partnership with the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank (MGCFB) and their purchasing power, allows the Rotary club to purchase food with their grant funds and club donations.
Rotarians will pack the boxes during the week of November 18 at the MGCFB.
On November 23, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, Rotarians will distribute turkeys and food boxes at World Changers Church, 630 Wimbish Road in Macon, starting at 8:00am.
“We are excited to support the Rotarians Against Hunger initiative here in our local community. Our members want to help fight hunger right here in Middle Georgia. We want to make a difference, not only feeding these 1000 families on Thanksgiving Day, but through the following week” commented Cile Lind, President of the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon.
Since November 1995, the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon has sponsored Thanksgiving meal boxes for more than 100 families each year. They began this service project as a celebration of the Centennial Anniversary of Rotary International. The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank has generously provided the hens and turkeys, with Rotarians purchasing the items to complete the meals. “This year is definitely a leap forward” states Lind.
Local Rotary members from have long supported the community through a range of service projects. Pints for Prostates, Crimestoppers, literacy projects and recognizing a student of the quarter from two local public elementary schools.
