The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center will host its annual Veterans Day Program on November 11 at 11 a.m. in its auditorium. The community and all Veterans are invited. Rebecca Howell, season 16 contestant on “The Voice” will sing a special tribute.

The annual program includes a variety of participants from the local and middle Georgia community, and honors veterans and active duty military for their service to the nation. This year’s ceremony will give a special honor to female Veterans for their contributions.

“Women have been on the battlefield throughout recorded history,” said David Whitmer, medical center director. “We owe our freedom to them as much as the men.”

Originally the day was known as Armistice Day after a presidential proclamation was signed by Presidential Woodrow Wilson in November 1919. In 1954 President Eisenhower signed a law proclaiming the observance as Veterans Day.
