Wesleyan College is proud to be among Macon Arts Alliance’s 2019 Cultural Award honorees. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the arts and culture in Central Georgia. Wesleyan College has been devoted to educating students in the fine arts and sharing the arts with the community since her founding in 1836.
Wesleyan's extensive collection of fine paintings, prints, furniture, and objects is among the most impressive in Central Georgia and is on display in buildings across campus including the newly renovated Willet Library and the College’s three galleries. Several years ago a program was established to conserve and restore our Wesleyan Treasures in order to preserve their aesthetic and monetary value. The Adopt-a-Painting program invites appreciators of art and friends of the College to contribute to the conservation of this collection by "adopting" a specific painting for restoration. Through the traveling exhibition Masterworks on the Move, Wesleyan’s world-class collection of American paintings has been shared with museums around the southeast.
Since 1913, Wesleyan College has hosted the Morning Music Club’s monthly programs, and The Macon Concert Association offers four concerts each year on Wesleyan’s campus. Porter Auditorium is the sight for many Cherry Blossom Festival events every spring and for many years hosted the Macon Symphony Orchestra. Wesleyan is home to a world-class collection of instruments (Bösendorfers, museum-quality Steinways, and the largest organ in the Southeast) and unusual instruments such as a harpsichord and clavichords.
The Confucius Institute at Wesleyan College offers programs in Chinese language and culture throughout the year. Located in Willet Library, the China Museum contains silk tapestries, oriental screens, ornate rosewood tables and chairs, porcelain objects d’art, and other Chinese art and artifacts that are a part of Wesleyan’s longstanding history with China.
Each summer, The Center for the Arts Academy offers young women a variety of fine arts disciplines with outstanding Wesleyan College faculty during a one-week residential immersion program. The program is designed for rising high school sophomore, junior, senior, and graduating senior girls to study, create, and perform in studio art, music, or theatre.
Wesleyan students may earn the BA in music with performance in piano, voice, and organ. The art department offers the BA and BFA in studio art.
