Oconee Fall Line Technical College’s (OFTC) pharmacy technology clinical adjunct and lab assistant, Breanna Spires, was recently recommended by Liza Chapman, Vice-President of Partnership Development of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) to become a member of the Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Task Force.

Spires has an extensive knowledge of controlled substances, policies, and law after spending four years as the controlled substance pharmacy technician for the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin.  

The task force consists of subject matter experts who designed and wrote the assessment for the Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention certificate program. The program is one of five which will be offered nationwide to Certified Pharmacy Technicians as part of PTCB’s new certificate program, the Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician.  

Certified Pharmacy Technicians must complete four of five certificate programs and have three years of work experience to be eligible to receive the credentials, CPhT-Adv.

“It was an honor to be chosen for this opportunity and the workshop was a great experience,” Spires shared. “The profession has come far, and the role of the technician is changing constantly. It was heart-warming to be surrounded by individuals who strive daily to make this profession the best it can be and I am excited about the upcoming certificate programs that PTCB has to offer and the future of the profession!”

Spires also serves as the Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for Georgia Pharmacy Association’s Academy of Pharmacy Technicians.
