FVSU’s Bachelor of Social Work Degree Program Receives Initial Accreditation Through 2023

Fort Valley State University’s Bachelor of Social Work Degree Program has been granted initial accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education Commission on Accreditation through June 2023. The Council on Social Work Education Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is the national association representing social work education in the United States. The organization’s mission is to enhance the quality of social work education for a professional practice that promotes individual, family, and community well-being, and social and economic justice. CSWE’s Commission on Accreditation (COA) is responsible for developing accreditation standards that define competent preparation and ensuring that social work programs meet these standards.
“This accomplishment is no small feat,” said Dr. T. Ramon Stuart, provost and vice president of academic affairs at FVSU. “It is a resounding testament to the dedicated faculty and staff who worked diligently to bring about this noteworthy distinction for our program. It is also a testament to the academic quality that we offer at Fort Valley State University as we educate the social workers of tomorrow to identify and address the needs of those most vulnerable in our society.”
FVSU’s Bachelor of Social Work degree program prepares students for immediate employment or graduate study in mental health clinical services and social services. The curriculum utilizes class and field instructions to develop and strengthen the attitudes, values, skills and knowledge necessary for success in this field.
CSWE sets and maintains national accreditation standards for baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in social work, promotes faculty development, engages in interprofessional and international collaborations, and advocates for social work education and research.
