The Macon-Bibb County Commission will set the millage rate at a meeting on August 6, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in Commission Chambers in Government Center (700 Poplar Street). From 2018 to 2019, the value of property in Macon-Bibb County increased $80,317,388, which is enough to trigger a millage rate rollback. Mayor Robert Reichert will be recommending the millage rate be reduced to 20.331 from last year’s rate of 20.652.

“We are continuing to see the value of our community increase as we become a more vibrant and attractive place to live, and become more and more the arts, cultural, employment, and educational hub of the region,” says Mayor Reichert. “One of the hopes of home ownership is that the value will increase so you have the chance to sell it for more later, and with new jobs coming here, a more vibrant downtown, revitalizing neighborhoods, and more parks, events, restaurants, and places to enjoy, the trend of the past several years can keep increasing.”

Since 2015, the value of property in Macon-Bibb County has increased $155,102,124. Each year, the real & personal property values have increased, but that has been offset in a significant decrease in motor vehicle taxes after the State of Georgia changed the way those are collected.
