The Macon-Bibb County Engineering Department and its project team will hold an informational open house on Thursday, July 18 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center (132 Willie Smokie Drive, in Central City Park) to discuss the proposed Seventh Street Corridor. The ultimate goal of this corridor will be to redirect truck traffic off of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and out of Downtown’s core and onto Seventh Street. The 7th Street corridor is primarily a heavy industrial area, and Central City Park is located at the north end of the project.

At the open house, people will learn more about the project and give feedback on the route and its proposed design. People will be able to view the displays, ask questions of representatives, discuss the specific details, and leave their comments. If you are unable to attend the open house, the plans will be on display and comment cards available at the Engineering Department at 780 Third Street until August 1.

Potential improvements along the corridor may include:

·      roadway widening,

·      pavement rehabilitation,

·      intersection improvements,

·      traffic/pedestrian signal modifications,

·      a potential roundabout,

·      a new bridge over the Norfolk Southern Brosnan Yard tracks,

·      an improved closed drainage system,

·      pedestrian and bicycle facilities,

·      retaining walls,

·      lighting, and r

·      elated infrastructure using a “Complete Streets” approach.
