The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center will host a ceremony for seven of its Community Living Center residents tomorrow, June 25 at 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium. All seven served in the Korean War and will be honored with the Ambassador of Peace Medal nearly 70 years after the conflict started.
The medal is an expression of appreciation from the Republic of Korea for the Veterans’ service during the Korean War. The Korean War lasted from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953.
“Some have called the Korean War – the Forgotten War,” said David L. Whitmer, medical center director. “This medal is a perfect way to let our Korean War Veterans know, they are not forgotten, and we are forever grateful for their service.”
All Veterans of the Korean War are eligible for the medal and are encouraged to contact the Korean Consulate or apply online. The medal is also available to Veterans posthumously but awarding living Veterans is a priority.
