New Cohort of Student Leaders to Graduate from Civic Program
Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO
Thursday, May 16th, 2019
On May 15, 2019, 30 student leaders will graduate from Macon-Bibb County’s Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS). There will be a ceremony and dinner for them beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Porter Pavilion in Amerson River Park. Speaking at the ceremony will be Commissioner Virgil Watkins, Superior Court Judge Verda Colvin, Clerk of Commission Janice Ross, and County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett.
This past year, students were able to learn about our consolidated government, how the different departments operate, tour the Emergency Operations Center, Fire Headquarters and Law Enforcement Center, shadow various departments as they served the community, learned about the impact tourism has on the community; and toured the different courts. Pictures from these visits can be seen on their Facebook page.
