Macon-Bibb County will celebrate the completion of major improvements at West Macon Park (5018 Mercer University Drive, behind Harley Davidson of Macon and Olympia Family Fun Center) with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, May 8 at 10:00 a.m.

“I am proud to have been involved with this park and this community for the past several decades, and now we’ve made sure it’s what our children deserve for several more decades,” says District 6 Commissioner Joe Allen. “I’m especially proud we were able to pave the road to the ballfield that was built for special needs children, and that we added a walking path for all people to enjoy.”

Speaking will be District 6 Commissioner Joe Allen, Br. Mike Blizzard with the West Macon Little League Board, Theron Ussery with the SPLOST Advisory Committee, and more. The Ceremony will be broadcast live on the Macon-Bibb County Recreation Facebook page.

Improvements to the field included building a new entrance and raised scorer tables, and rebuilding all but one of the baseball fields, which meant replacing all fencing, dugouts, and the field itself. The road leading to the ball field near the rear of the Park was also paved, and a walking path along the exterior of the park was added. This project was funded with $560,000 from the Blight Remediation Program and voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). The blight funds came from the allocations for Districts 3, 6, and 7.
