Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

As part of Public Works Appreciation Week, Macon-Bibb County will host its Public Works, Parks & Beautification, Engineering, Vehicle Maintenance, and Facilities Management Departments at Lake Tobesofkee’s Sandy Beach Park (6880 Moseley Dixon Road) for a day of fun activities that promote physical wellness.
Events will take place on Thursday, May 23, from 8:00 – 11:30 a.m. and include a crab walk, horseshoes, corn hole, wheelbarrow races, over/under sponge relay, and tug-of-war. The competitions will be judged by the Recreation Department. Lunch will be held at Fish-N-Pig, where awards will be given out to winning teams and departments.
“Whether it’s fixing streets or building sidewalks, our crews are an integral part of what Macon-Bibb is doing to improve the infrastructure of our city, and we want them to know how important they and their work are to us,” says Public Works Director Marvin Land. “We won two years ago, and we’re taking the title back this year!”
“Our crews work so hard every day, and summertime it can be even harder with the additional grass cutting that’s needed and with all of the events around town. This is a way to thank them for their work throughout the year, get them ready for this summer, and promote healthier living,” says Interim Parks & Beautification Director Randell Hunt. “Plus, we have to defend our title.”
This is the sixth year Macon-Bibb County has hosted this type of event for Public Works Appreciation Week. Last year, the Parks & Beautification Department took home the championship trophy.
