Coliseum Medical Centers To Offer Low-Dose CT Lung Cancer Screenings

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Wednesday, May 29th, 2019

Coliseum Medical Centers will offer a special low-dose CT lung screening on Tuesday, May 21.  A low dose CT lung cancer screening is the only approved way to screen for lung cancer and is recommended for those with a history of heavy cigarette usage who are between the ages of 55 and 77 with no current lung cancer symptoms. The cash price for the screening is $100; however, many insurances cover that cost if you meet the above screening criteria.

Dr. Norman “Chip” Hetzler, a cardiothoracic surgeon with Coliseum Heart, Lung & Vascular, said, “While patients can schedule this procedure throughout the year at Coliseum, we offer a special screening day twice a year where the out of pocket fees are reduced.  Since we’ve started these special lung screening days, we’ve caught lung cancer that wouldn’t have been seen otherwise.  Simply put – this screening saves lives, especially in middle Georgia where smoking is so prevalent."

The low-dose CT screening will be offered between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  To schedule an appointment, call (478) 746-4646 or visit the Classes & Events section of www.ColiseumHealthSystem.com.
