Urban Development Authority to Celebrate Success of Downtown Challenge and Macon Action Plan during March 15th Event in Cherry Street Plaza
Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO
Thursday, March 7th, 2019
The Macon Action Plan (MAP) was completed in October of 2015 and with it the Downtown Challenge Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia was announced to assist in the plan’s implementation. After three years of grants, a significant portion of the MAP has been completed thanks to community and organizational collaboration.
To celebrate the success of the MAP and the Downtown Challenge, the Urban Development Authority is inviting the community to a capstone event in Cherry Street Plaza (between the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and Tubman Museum) on March 15 from 12pm-7pm, with a presentation and MAP Report Card to be delivered beginning at 6pm. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from 12pm-4pm and free food and beverages from downtown restaurants will be available from 4pm-7pm.
Recipients of Downtown Challenge Grants will be on hand to share the results and demonstrations of their grants. There will be live music and other performances on the hour and activities and games available throughout the course of the event.
The event is itself funded by a Downtown Challenge Grant, which was managed by the Community Foundation of Central Georgia and made possible by generous donations from the Peyton Anderson Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
“We are excited to have this opportunity to share in the successes in the urban core thanks to the rapid implementation of the Macon Action Plan. This event will bring together many of the ideas that made the plan and Downtown Challenge so impactful for Macon,” says Alex Morrison, UDA Executive Director.
This event is free and open to the public.
