Philanthropic Central Georgia residents will show their moves on the dance floor for one exciting evening to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter. The event, Dancing Stars of Central Georgia, will take place on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Macon City Auditorium in Macon, Georgia.

This year's Dancing Stars of Central Georgia local celebrity dancers include: Dr. Paul Evans, Carson Jones, Salwa Megally, Heather Neal, Corrie Hall, Tami Fricks, Robby Mathis, Dr. Patricia Walker, Brian Nelson, Mandy Stella, and Mic Miller.

Mirroring the popular TV show, this event pairs local Central Georgia residents with professional dancers to raise money by gaining votes in a one-night gala dance competition. Supporters can vote online for their favorite dancer prior to the event. In 2018, Dancing Stars of Central Georgia raised over $233,000 for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs with the Alzheimer’s Association. 2018 winners included Judge’s Choice winner Dr. Champa Woodham and People’s Choice winner Linda Brennan raising over $33,000.

“Alzheimer’s is a disease that touches all of our lives, and Dancing Stars is a delightful event for this important cause”, added Linda Brennan, co-chair, 2019 Dancing Stars of Central Georgia. “ I danced to honor my father, who passed away after a horrible decline with the disease”.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only disease among the top 10 causes that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed. Additionally, more than 15 million family and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the U.S. In Georgia alone, there are more than 150,000 people living with the disease and 533,000 caregivers.
