Middle Georgians Invited to Run in their Undies at the Undy RunWalk March 9th

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Tuesday, February 26th, 2019

The Coliseum Cancer Institute will once again bring the Undy Run/Walk to Macon.  The timed 5K run/walk will start Saturday, March 9 at 9:00 a.m. at the Mathews Fitness Center of Wesleyan College. Racers are encouraged to wear underwear on the outside of their race attire as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the area on the body affected by colon cancer.  Instead of a typical race day t-shirt, all registered participants receive a commemorative pair of Undy Run/Walk boxers.

The 2019 Macon Undy Run/Walk financially supports the efforts of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance to provide colon cancer screening and education to patients in Middle Georgia.  The Undy Run/Walk will be held in cities across the country to educate the public about colon cancer, promote screenings and encourage people to talk about the disease. It is a family-friendly event open to all ages, and in addition to the 5K, there will be kid’s activities.

Local gastroenterologist, Dr. Davey R. Deal, Jr., said, “Events like the Undy RunWalk are a great way to bring attention to colorectal cancer.  Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers, and it is preventable if cancer-causing polyps are found early.  Colon cancer affects many people in Middle Georgia and I encourage the community to support this race.”

All survivors of colon cancer are encouraged to participate and will receive free registration.  Starting at 8:40, all survivors will be recognized in a ceremony prior to the race. The course will begin and end at the Mathews Fitness Center on the campus of Wesleyan College.  The course will be “stroller friendly” for participants who may wish to go at a slower pace.  Prizes will be awarded for all age groups.  There will also be a prize for best costume.

Anyone wishing to participate in this family-oriented, fun event, can visit www.undyrunwalk.org and choose Macon as their race location to register for the event.   Race fees are $35 for anyone 14 or older and $30 for ages 6-13.
