Macon Sets Jobs Record in November

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Macon set another record in November for total jobs.
At the same time, the unemployment rate continued to fall. Macon maintained annual growth in most critical measures across the seven-county metropolitan statistical area (MSA).
“This really has been a great year for Georgia,” Butler said. “Across the state we continue to add jobs, and find people to fill them. We’ve routinely set records. There is much to be thankful for this holiday season.”
The unemployment rate for November, at 3.9 percent, was down 0.2 percent over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4.7 percent. That rate was 11th lowest among the 14 MSAs. The rate dropped in 13 of the 14 MSAs.
The labor force in Macon climbed by 197 in November to reach 105,541. That number is down by 25 over the past year – an average monthly decrease of about two.
Macon added 464 employed residents in November, pushing the total to 101,459. The number is up 848 for the year, or about 70 per month.
Jobs grew by 1,200 in November to 104,900 - a record high. The job total in Macon is up 1,300 over the year – an average increase of about 108 per month.
Claims for unemployment insurance increased by 11 percent in November. They were up by 55 percent when compared to the same month a year ago.
