Film and television actor and producer William Mark McCullough, a 1995 graduate of Mercer, will deliver the University’s 2019 Founders’ Day address Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. in Willingham Auditorium on the Macon campus.
Each year on Founders’ Day, a prominent Mercerian returns to campus to share how the University has influenced his or her life. The Heritage Life Committee of the Student Government Association (SGA) coordinates the annual convocation, which first took place at Mercer in 1891.
“It has been such an honor for me and the Heritage Life Committee to plan this event,” said senior Clark Myers, who chairs the committee. “We are incredibly excited to hear what Mr. McCullough has to say and to learn how his time at Mercer shaped him as a person. Founders’ Day is a great time for Mercerians, both present and past, to come together and reflect on our heritage. Mr. McCullough has an amazing story, and I cannot wait for Mercer to hear from him.”
McCullough is a Savannah native and founder of Fort Argyle Films and Savannah Actors Studio. He graduated from Mercer with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre and political theory and went on to earn a Juris Doctor degree from American University.
Following law school, McCullough began working in Washington, D.C., as a prosecutor. After being involved in a serious car wreck, he realized he needed more from his career, quit his job and moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
His most notable film roles include the gun and drug smuggling co-pilot to Tom Cruise’s character in the Doug Liman thriller “American Made” (2017), the violent enforcer for Nicolas Cage’s character in the crime thriller “Arsenal” (2017) and the redneck co-worker to Channing Tatum’s character in the Steven Soderbergh comedy “Logan Lucky” (2017).
He had recurring roles on the PBS series “Mercy Street” (2017) as a violent confederate spy, as well as on the WGN America series “Underground” (2016) as an abolitionist. He guest starred as an intense vampire on the British television series “Living The Dream” (2017) and appeared in ABC’s “Secrets and Lies” (2015) and Bounce TV’s “Sinners and Saints” (2017).
