Ronald McDonald House of Central Georgia House Expansion Groundbreaking Today

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia will hold their official groundbreaking on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at noon. The groundbreaking will take place at 755 Orange Street, Macon, GA.

Since our opening, in 2002, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia has served over 6,500 families for over 58,000 nights, from 131 Georgia counties, 28 states and 8 countries. With our expansion we will more than double our capacity to serve families and provide care and support for families of seriously ill, critically injured or medically fragile children being treated at area medical facilities. Our plan is to begin construction and have the project completed by the end of 2019.

Located a block from the Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health, and two miles from Coliseum Medical Center, we are able to be part of the compassionate care team providing support to children and their families each and every day. Our House is filled with more than help; it’s filled with hope. Many families travel far from home and spend several weeks or months to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured child – a long time to be away or to divide a family. And, for children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having mom and dad close by for love and support. Our Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to call home so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little to no cost.

In 2017, Navicent Health broke ground for the expansion of the Children’s Hospital, now the Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital. This expansion will continue to provide the region’s only dedicated pediatric hospital serving Central and South Georgia. Coliseum Medical Center is also expanding their neonatal unit and adding new services. With new facilities and state-of-the-art technology, and more specialists, Macon will become an even more important center for children’s health care and services.
