The Department of Surgery at The Medical Center, Navicent Health cordially invites to the community to celebrate African-American History Month with two events recognizing African-Americans’ contributions to medicine.
 
Wednesday, February 7

Macon Surgical Society Conference dinner

Presentation:    “The Legacy of Dr. Charles R. Drew”

Time:               6:30 p.m.

Location:          Tubman African-American Museum (310 Cherry Street, Macon)
 
Thursday, February 8

Surgery Grand Rounds

Presentation:    “Outcomes Disparities in Trauma Care: Who, Why, When?”

Time:               7:30 a.m.

Location:         The Medical Center, Navicent Health (777 Hemlock Street, Macon)
 
“It has long been a tradition for the Department of Surgery at The Medical Center, Navicent Health to honor African-American surgeons and their contributions to the field of surgery. This year, we will honor the legacy of Dr. Charles R. Drew, who’s early prototype for blood storage and preservation has saved countless lives. We will also discuss minimizing disparities among patients in our present time, and what we can do to impact patient care,” said Dennis Ashley, MD, Chair of the Department of Surgery at The Medical Center, Navicent Health.
