Thursday, October 19th, 2017

Macon-Bibb County will celebrate the completion of significant improvements to Hillcrest Park (2280 Hillcrest Avenue) on Thursday, October 19, at 10:00 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The project was funded with almost $175,000 from the Blight Remediation Program. Mayor Pro Tem Bert Bivins committed the money from the portion allocated for District 5.

This significant improvement project included:

demolition of the old restrooms;

construction of a new open pavilion;

installing new playground equipment;

installing new sidewalks;

replacing the two basketball courts and installing new basketball goals and fencing;

installing new fencing around the perimeter of the park; and

landscaping.

Suggested: “It’s exciting to see this blight taken care of, thanks to Commissioner Bivins. Hillcrest Park is heavily used by the neighborhood, and it was falling apart,” says Blight Consultant Cass Hatcher with Georgia Behavioral Health Services, Inc. “With these funds and Commission leadership, we’ve been able to begin providing people the type of space they deserve.”

“Thanks to the Blight Remediation Program and the SPLOST, our recreation facilities and parks are undergoing a major upgrade,” says Recreation Department Director Robert Walker. “People deserve places to go where they can experience high quality recreational programs and recreational facilities.”
