Macon-Bibb Opening, Dedicating Lonzy Edwards Fire Station September 21st

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Thursday, September 21st, 2017

Macon-Bibb County will officially open and dedicate the new Lonzy Edwards Fire Station (3947 Jeffersonville Road) on Thursday, September 21, at 10:00 a.m. The event will feature speakers, a ribbon cutting, plaque unveiling, tours of the station, and food.

Due to limited parking, please park at either Swift Creek Baptist Church (4354 Jeffersonville Road) or Swift Creek United Methodist Church (4271 Jeffersonville Road). They have been gracious enough to allow us to use their lots, and we will be providing transportation to the fire station.

“We’ve been working to improve fire protection coverage in East Macon-Bibb County for several years, and we’re excited for this day to finally be here,” says Fire Chief Marvin Riggins. “With this new station, we’ll be able to reduce response times in the area and help keep people, pets, and property safe.”

“I know personally the importance of having shorter response times; we had a fire at my home several years while two of our grandchildren were sleeping downstairs. The Fire Department was able to rescue them, and I’ll forever be grateful for their service,” says District 3 Commissioner Elaine Lucas. “Every family should sleep safe at night knowing they are protected by our top notch fire fighters.”

Speakers and guests at the event will be Mrs. Nancy Edward, the firefighters assigned to the new station, District 3 Commissioner Elaine Lucas, Mayor Robert Reichert, Fire Chief Marvin Riggins, Assistant Fire Chief Shane Edwards, Pastor Willie Finney with St. Peters Baptist Church, Chairman Jefferey Monroe with the SPLOST Advisory Committee, and Reverend Dr. Stanley Kimble from Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.
