Lt. Governor Casey Cagle is proud to join the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association in congratulating Sheriff Terry Deese on being named the 2017 Sheriff of the Year. Deese has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the Office of Sheriff, as well as  his community and Georgia’s law enforcement family.

“Terry is not only a friend – he is someone I admire both personally and professionally,” said Lt. Governor Cagle. “This past year Peach County endured an unimaginable tragedy, involving the deaths of two respected law enforcement officers. Relying on his faith and family during this most difficult time, Sheriff Deese displayed acts of courage and leadership that go beyond what words can describe.”

A Peach County Deputy Sheriff since 1983, Deese was elected Sheriff in 2005. In the past year, his office endured the loss of two officers in the line of duty. Devastated by the deaths of two local heroes, the law enforcement community and residents of Peach County depended on his leadership to navigate the fallout from this unimaginable tragedy.

His colleagues noted his commitment to building bridges to the community through cooperation and mutual respect as one of the main reasons for awarding him this distinguished honor. Deese presently serves as the President of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association after previously holding the title of President of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes.
