The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists has awarded accreditation to the Department of Clinical Laboratory Services at Medical Center of Peach County, Navicent Health. The accreditation is based on the results of a recent on-site inspection as part of CAP’s Accreditation Programs. MCPC becomes one of more than 7,700 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“At the Medical Center of Peach County, we set high standards for ourselves for excellence in patient care. Our lab’s accreditation by the globally recognized College of American Pathologists is testament to the tremendous care our laboratory managers and technicians provide for each of our patients,” said Darren Pearce, Chief Administrative Officer for MCPC.

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standards of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management. The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.

“Our lab team went through a very rigorous process in order to achieve this accreditation, and we are so pleased that they have been recognized for the caliber of their work. Our patients know they are in good hands, receiving high quality care close to home, when they visit Medical Center of Peach County,” said Gene Battles, M.D., pathologist with MCPC’s Department of Clinical Laboratory Services.

MCPC, located at 1960 Hwy 247 Connector in Byron, provides the residents of Peach and surrounding counties access to a new, modern, 25-bed hospital offering emergency care, an operating room suite, numerous diagnostic and outpatient services and all-private rooms. The hospital was constructed and opened in 2013, after Peach Regional Medical Center partnered with Navicent Health.

The lab at MCPC operates around the clock, seven days per week, in order to serve patients with convenient access to care. No appointments are necessary, walk-ins are welcome. Patient’s must present a doctor’s order for lab work and a photo ID.
