Macon-Bibb County, the Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority, and design form HGOR will hold the third and final public meeting for the future design of Rosa Parks Square on Tuesday, March 28, in Commission Chambers in Government Center (700 Poplar Street) at 6:00 p.m.
At this forum, HGOR will unveil the proposed design for Rosa Parks Square, and seek final feedback. With the public’s input, the design will be submitted to Macon-Bibb Parks and Beautification Department and the Commission for review and consideration.
“This park sits at the heart of Macon-Bibb’s civic infrastructure and its design is critical to the future improvements of Downtown life,” says UDA Executive Director Alex Morrison. “What we heard from the public throughout this process – and the Macon Action Plan – is the need to maximize the park’s gathering space and to instill a sense of reflection and honor for those memorialized in the park.”
The design of the park is part of the implementation of the community-developed Macon Action Plan that proposed an improved Rosa Parks Square and other downtown parks as a way to enhance the experience of downtown Macon. The goal is to improve the parks role in attracting people to downtown, supporting business activity, while enhancing the park’s ability to tell the story of civil rights heroes who were vital in bringing Macon forward.
