The Macon-Bibb Community Enhancement Authority’s work on its Pleasant Hill Mitigation Plan responsibilities is progressing according to schedule with the last of the seven designated houses being moved as promised during the final week of February. State Rep. James Beverly serves as chairman of the Macon-Bibb CEA.

“February was another great month for Pleasant Hill,” said State Rep. James Beverly, chairman of the Macon-Bibb Community Enhancement Authority. “We moved the seventh and final house, local residents working for the Authority made great progress on the rehabilitation of the houses that we had already moved and we welcomed almost 200 people to our first job fair.”

Next steps for the Authority include continued rehabilitation of the seven moved houses, hiring of job applicants and continuing preparations for the construction of 17 brand-new homes that will be built from the ground up in Pleasant Hill.

Local residents interested in learning about employment opportunities for construction work on the Pleasant Hill Mitigation Plan participated in an employment application day on Monday, February 20, 2017 at L.H. Williams Elementary School. Presented for the Macon-Bibb Community Enhancement Authority by the Austin Center, the event began at 10 a.m., but lines formed outside the school starting at 8 a.m.

The event was presented in response to widespread public interest in the fast progress of the Pleasant Hill Mitigation Plan and inquiries about employment opportunities. At the event people were able to learn about the Plan and submit an application to work on projects related to it.

Employment applications are still being accepted and may be submitted online at www.MaconBibbCEA.com or by contacting Frank Austin, executive director of the Austin Center, at 478-714-1885 or [email protected].

The Pleasant Hill Mitigation Plan is the formal name for the $495 million Interstate 16 and Interstate 75 interchange expansion project that will improve the safety of the interstate corridor by widening and reconstructing I-75 from Hardeman Avenue to Pierce Avenue and I-16 from I-75 to Walnut Creek within the City of Macon.

In cooperation with the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Macon-Bibb Community Enhancement Authority plays an integral role in the project as the authority connects state and local organizations and engages the community. State Rep. James Beverly serves as chairman of the MBCEA.
