Navicent Health and Stratus Healthcare have partnered with Wesleyan in the certificate program. “We are excited to partner with Wesleyan College, an institution with a stellar reputation. The Lean/Six Sigma programs are valuable resources for our students and our organizations, as well as those of our Stratus members. We are pleased the Wesleyan College has provided The Medical Center, Navicent Health with this opportunity,” said Ninfa M. Saunders, DHA, President, and CEO of Navicent Health.

The term “Six Sigma,” coined by Motorola in 1986, refers to a process that is nearly error-free, earning a sigma rating of six. Six Sigma has become a valued certification in many industries, especially health care and manufacturing. The curriculum prepares participants to improve the quality of their work environments and processes in order to fulfill the mission of the organization. The concept and the training address not only products, but also the processes and team work necessary to be productive and successful. Like the disciplined karate student, Six Sigma graduates earn “belts”: from yellow belt to green belt to the highest honors, black belt and master black belt.

Lean/Six Sigma courses are taught by instructors who have expertise in business administration, management, and statistics and who have earned IISE certification themselves. The courses are offered in a hybrid format, with half of the course work online and half in the classroom on Wesleyan’s Macon campus. Classes meet for three hours, one evening per week. The Six Sigma Green Belt course lasts five week and the Six Sigma Black Belt course lasts fifteen weeks.

Lean/Six Sigma certification provides numerous career benefits, including:

  • Improved business acumen and analytical skills

  • Improved marketability as an employee, leader, and change agent within your organization

  • Ability to strengthen your organization or business by reducing costs while improving service and quality
