Inaugural Southeast Park Community Day to be Held April 22nd

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Friday, February 24th, 2017

Little League Southeastern Region will conduct the first-ever Southeast Park Community Day April 22 starting at 10 a.m. with four different free events for any individual.

There will be four separate events, including three taking place on the field of Southeast Park, located at 438 Snellgrove Drive in Warner Robins. No Little League affiliation along with baseball or softball experience is required to participate.

Two youth competitions will highlight the day with Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit & Run Competition taking place at 10 a.m. and the MLB Junior Home Run Derby at 3 p.m. Any boy or girl, ages 7-14 (age determined as of July 17, 2017) is eligible to participate. Winners of the competitions will advance to the sectional level and have the opportunity to advance to MLB All-Star week. Each participant is required to provide a copy of a valid birth certificate prior to the competition.

Advance completion of the required registration for the competitions is strongly recommended and can be completed in-person weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Region Headquarters in Warner Robins at 439 Snellgrove Drive or online at www.LittleLeague.org/South. Parents of youth that plan to participate in either of the competitions are encouraged to review the event rules and format from the Region website prior to the event.

Also during the Community Day, an Open Field Hour will be conducted from 1-2 p.m. and will allow any individual with no age requirements to have a catch, run the bases or tour the Southeast Park field. No hitting will be permitted during the Open Field session. Furthermore, in the stadium parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., safety vehicles from various area emergency response departments will be on display to allow individuals to tour and explore them.

“This is the first time ever that any individual, regardless of their youth baseball or softball affiliation will have the chance to compete at and step onto Southeast Park,” said Matt Weber, assistant region director. “We want to conduct an outreach event to allow those in the community to experience this attraction located in their backyard.”

No metal cleats are permitted during any of the on-field events and no equipment will be provided so participants are encouraged to bring their own. Individuals that have additional questions can contact the Region office at 478-987-7227 or [email protected].
