Coliseum Northside Hospital Named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s List: 59 Hospitals in the US with the Lowest ED Wait Times
Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO
Wednesday, February 8th, 2017
Coliseum Northside Hospital has been named among the nation’s hospitals with the shortest emergency room wait times. Becker’s Hospital Review recently compiled a list of hospitals where patients spent an average of four minutes or less in the emergency room before being seen by a healthcare professional. The national average is 22 minutes; Coliseum Northside Hospital’s average wait time was listed as 4 minutes. Coliseum Northside Hospital was the only hospital in Georgia to be listed.
Stephen J. Daugherty, Chief Executive Officer at Coliseum Northside Hospital, said, “Our number one concern in our emergency room is to reduce the suffering of our patients. Shortening the wait times to be evaluated by a physician is the first step toward that goal.”
Coliseum Northside Hospital’s Emergency Room is open to treat all emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The hospital also has a dedicated pediatric ER staffed with board certified pediatricians. In 2016, Coliseum Northside Hospital provided emergency services to over 36,000 patients; 6,000 of those were pediatric patients.
Becker’s Hospital Review used data from CMS’s Hospital Compare database. Times are figured using the “door to diagnostic evaluation” measure in Hospital Compare’s Emergency Department Care Measures dataset. The information was collected from April 2015 through March 2016.
