CGTC President Dr. Ivan H. Allen Elected as SACSCOC Trustee

Central Georgia Technical College president, Dr. Ivan H. Allen, was elected by the College Delegate Assembly of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges during its Business Meeting on December 6, 2016 to serve on the Board of Trustees.
 
SACSCOC serves as the recognized regional accrediting body for those institutions of higher education that award degrees in the 11 southeastern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia). Its main purpose is the improvement of educational quality throughout the region and assurance to the public that its institutions meet established membership approved standards.
 
The Commission on Colleges' Board of Trustees is the representative body of the College Delegate Assembly and is charged with carrying out the accreditation process. Elected Trustees will represent over 800 institutions and be responsible for determining SACSCOC policy, reviewing and making decisions regarding the accreditation of institutions, and conducting the initial review for any proposed dues changes or any modifications to SACSCOC standards.
 
Dr. Allen is one of eight members elected to serve as part of the SACSCOC Georgia delegation. Other elected Georgia Trustees include D. Ray Perren, president of Lanier Technical College; O. Max Burns, president of Gordon State College; Thomas J. Hynes, president of Clayton State University; Daniel Jackson, president and CEO of Carroll Tomorrow & Carroll County Chamber of Commerce; Kina S. Mallard, president of Reinhardt University; Russell J. Mumper, vice provost for academic affairs at the University of Georgia; and James S. Netherton, executive vice president for administration & finances at Mercer University.
