Members of the Houston County Career Academy Board of Directors attended Lt. Governor Casey Cagle’s 9th Annual Business and Education Summit on October 24th and 25th in Calhoun and Dalton GA. Unleashing the Classroom: Preparing Tomorrow’s Workforce Today was the theme of summit. The primary focus was manufacturing which is Northwest GA’s number one employing industry. Participants had the opportunity to visit and tour one of three manufacturing companies; Shaw Industries, Mohawk Industries, Inc., and Anheuser-Busch Brewery. 

State Superintendent Richard Woods addressed the group on Monday highlighting ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act). Lt. Casey Cagle delivered the keynote speech on Tuesday. He discussed his vision for the development and advancement of Georgia’s school and economy. Summit participants received a copy of his new book “Education Unleashed”.
