New Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S., were announced by The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog.  Fairview Park Hospital and Coliseum Northside Hospital were two of 844 hospitals across the country to receive an “A”, ranking and be named among the safest hospitals in the United States.

Don Avery, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fairview Park Hospital, said, “"I am very proud of the Fairview team for our third consecutive year with an "A" rating from the Leapfrog group.  We are very committed to patient safety and positive clinical outcomes for everyone who entrusts us with their care.  This rating is evidence of that commitment and the hard work of literally hundreds of employees and doctors at Fairview Park Hospital."

Stephen J. Daugherty, Chief Executive Officer of Coliseum Northside Hospital, said, “Patient safety is our top priority and I am extremely pleased with the work that our physicians and hospital staff have done to ensure that our patients are treated in a safe environment.”

Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate ‘A’ hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”
