The Central Georgia Technical College Adult Education Division recently took home six awards at the Technical College System of Georgia’s 2016 Adult Education Fall Conference and GED Awards.
The awards were given at a luncheon in September in Atlanta in front of nearly 400 people including leadership from adult education and testing, both state and nationwide.

The conference discussed current educational trends, services, strategies and systems for retaining and graduating adult students. Break-out sessions were aimed at professional development and collaboration among TCSG’s adult education employees, and the luncheon awards were a brief moment to honor their work and the students who benefit.
Dr. Brenda Brown, vice president of adult education, said receiving the awards was a boost for the morale of the entire division, and served as an indication that everyone involved is doing well and that their efforts are noticed.
“Being recognized in front of your peers across the state also validates the time and effort put into the work we do,” Brown said. “It has often been said that if you work in education you are not working for the money, but rather for the satisfaction of knowing you are helping individuals.”
Student awardees at the conference spoke highly of the adult education programs overall, and of the sense of power and confidence, second chances and stability, given to them in attaining a GED. In addition to those sentiments, attaining a GED ultimately proved to be a vital step in achieving higher educational success in the System.
Brown also said the Adult Education team sets goals exactly for that and recognizes the leadership and support of the College in accomplishing them.
