AT&T Supports Middle Georgia Regional Commission’s Workforce Development Career Pathway Fund

As part of the company’s continuing commitment to support workforce development efforts and strong local economies, AT&T recently contributed $12,000 to the Middle Georgia Regional Commission as part of the inaugural $20k for 2020 workforce development competition. Middle Georgia Regional Commission competed with six other organizations from across the state to generate social media activity in support of their work in the community.
“AT&T’s $20k for 2020 competition offered a wonderful opportunity to engage our community and tell our story,” said Laura Mathis, Executive Director of the Middle Georgia Regional Commission. “Our Workforce Development Career Pathway Fund offers vital financial support that helps eliminate some of the potential financial obstacles students face when pursuing skills that prepare them for better careers, and this financial support from the business community is vital to keeping these students in their programs and on track to better futures.”
Through their Workforce Development Career Pathway Fund, the Middle Georgia Regional Commission supports area welding, aircraft structural, and certified nursing programs.
“These Middle Georgia Regional Commission has a consistent record of addressing and meeting the needs of our workforce here in Georgia, and with the adoption of new technologies and increasing connectivity, the skills that Georgians are positioned to develop through the Middle Georgia Regional Commission’s Workforce Development Career Pathway Fund are invaluable,” said Terry Smith, Regional Director of External Affairs, AT&T Georgia. “Even within AT&T, we are aggressively pursuing efforts to establish a lifetime commitment to skills development among our employees, and we are proud to support the efforts of the Middle Georgia Regional Commission.”
With the state’s recent ranking as the number one state in which to do business, AT&T’s $20k for 2020 competition was designed to highlight organizations that are engaged in education and workforce development efforts around Georgia. In this, the first year of the competition, organizations from communities across the state were recognized for their work to engage business, community and educational leaders to address local workforce needs and further position Georgia as the best place to do business in the country.
