United Way of Central Georgia applauds Sascha Norman for receiving one of 12 “RBI for RBI” scholarships awarded by the Major League Baseball Charities. These scholarships are given to graduating high school seniors who participate in their local Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program. The need-based award is for $5,000/year, and may be renewed for up to three additional years for a total of $20,000.
United Way of Central Georgia and Boys and Girls Clubs were instrumental in bringing this program to our community in 2015. The purpose of Macon RBI is to ensure that kids who want to play baseball and softball are given the opportunity regardless of their financial situation.
Norman, a graduate of Central High School, is now attending Forest Trail Sports University in North Carolina to pursue a career as a physical therapist. She has served as the captain for her high school and RBI softball teams. She volunteers her spare time with the local food and clothing bank. Norman is the first Macon RBI participant to receive the “RBI for RBI” scholarship.
Jeff Battcher, the Macon RBI League Administrator, comments on the fantastic opportunity given to Norman:
"It’s so exciting to have one of the MLB’s national scholarships awarded to such a fine young woman,” said Battcher. “There's no doubt that this program is a huge success and beneficial to Middle Georgia. Thank you to United Way for embracing this program. We are truly changing lives!"
Bernard Snell, Board Member of Macon Little League and President of the Girls Softball Program, added:
“On behalf of Macon Little League’s RBI Program we congratulate Sascha and her family for earning this scholarship award, which is well deserved. This is outstanding news for our community and we hope that Sascha’s recognition will inspire RBI program participants and community youth to realize that their education goals are achievable.”
