Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Macon-Bibb County is accepting applications until Friday, August 12 for its fourth annual Youth Commission, a year-long program for students to learn more about their local consolidated government, as well as how it interacts with state and federal government. This year’s Youth Commission will meet from August 2016 through May 2017, and it is open to 10th-12th grade students in public, private, and home schools.

Applications will be accepted from August 1-12, and interviews will be conducted around August 15-19. The first session for students accepted to the Youth Commission will be an Orientation on August 30. To apply for the Youth Commission, visit www.maconbibb.us/youthcommissionapplication.

Each month, students will meet after school to learn more about Macon-Bibb departments and partners and their roles in our community. There will be several out-of-county learning excursions, and transportation will be provided for those. In the past, students have visited Atlanta, Savannah, Washington, DC, and Suwanee. Students will also be invited to Commission Meetings and given the chance to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. To learn more about the Macon-Bibb Youth Commission, click here.
