Navicent Health unveiled its most recent service for the region’s children – a state-of-the-art comprehensive pediatric emergency center. The Pediatric Emergency Center, Navicent Health is designed solely for the care of children and provides immediate access to the region’s only provider of comprehensive pediatric care.

“At Navicent Health, we realize that children are children, and not simply tiny adults. When they are ill or injured, children should receive care that is tailored specifically to their needs. When we say, ‘Everything about us is all about you,’ that message is intended for every patient, including children and their families. That is why we have chosen to open a special emergency center designed specifically for pediatric care,” said Dr. Ninfa M. Saunders, President and CEO of Navicent Health.

The Pediatric EC is located within The Medical Center, Navicent Health’s current Emergency Center at 770 Pine Street in Macon, and is open 24 hours a day, seven days per week. In order to provide timely care, pediatric patients presenting for treatment are immediately taken to the Pediatric EC and triaged within child-friendly patient rooms.

“The addition of the Pediatric Emergency Center will allow pediatric caregivers to provide timely care for ill and injured children in a comforting setting, while Emergency Center staff continues to provide world-class emergent and trauma care for adult patients as well,” said Dr. John Wood, Medical Director of the Emergency Center at The Medical Center, Navicent Health.

The Pediatric EC is staffed with board-certified pediatricians and pediatric specialists, and offers child-size features and technology in order to provide each young patient with comforting care. In addition, the Pediatric EC affords instant access to all services of Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health, including:

·         Board-certified pediatricians and pediatric specialists
·         Board-certified pediatric surgeons
·         Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
·         Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
·         Specially-equipped pediatric ambulances

“Pediatric Emergency Center, Navicent Health will raise the standard for pediatric emergency care in our region. Patients will not only be served within the emergency center, but will also have rapid access to the comprehensive pediatric services that Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health has offered for almost 30 years. Families can be comforted in knowing that the highest level of emergency care, backed by comprehensive pediatric services, is available when their child faces illness or injury,” said Dr. Rogelio de la Cruz, Medical Director of Pediatric Emergency Center, Navicent Health.

The newly designed Pediatric EC began serving patients on Monday, July 11, 2016.
