The Georgia Department of Corrections awarded Central Georgia Technical College Partner Agency of the Year in a ceremony held at its headquarters in June.
The GDC recognized CGTC, along with seven other agencies, for its support of the GDC and service to the state of Georgia in 2015. The ceremony included key state officials on hand and more than 200 guests.
The GDC’s mission of protecting the public through its operation of secure and safe facilities while reducing recidivism, is carried out by the assistance of these partner agencies.
CGTC provides vocational and technical training, both credit and non-credit courses at GDC facilities, including; Animal Health Care Assistant, Business and Customer Service Technology, Certified Construction Worker, Cabinetmaking Assembly Technician, Air Conditioning Technician Assistant, Design and Media Production Specialist, Prep Cook, Residential/Commercial Plumbing Technician, Administrative Support Assistant, Diesel Truck Maintenance Technician, and Gas Metal Arc Welder.
Dr. Brittany Lucas, director of reentry programs, said that the College’s involvement with the GDC stems directly from CGTC’s Reentry Programs’ mission to promote Georgia’s economic growth and development by providing quality technical education and customized training to facilitate successful in-mate reentry into society.
“CGTC’s purpose is to provide vocational training services that will offer offenders an opportunity to increase their post-release employability,” Lucas said.
The provision of vocational training from CGTC reaches 15 state and private facilities across Georgia, and includes technical certificates of credit, On-the-Job Training certificates, and non-credit continuing courses.
