The Brick Macon Opens Today
Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO
Wednesday, May 25th, 2016
Set to serve up an inviting, flavorful menu in an open, enjoyable environment, The Brick Macon opens for lunch at 11am on Wednesday, May 25th at 1305 Hardeman Avenue in the Lofts at College Hill. All are invited to come to the Downtown Macon table for The Brick’s from-scratch pizzas, calzones, and stuffed sticks; unique pastas; fresh salads;
and wings tossed in one of a dozen house-made sauces next to a full-service bar and a wide variety of draft and bottled beers. Limited edition giveaways will commemorate the College Hill Corridor opening day of business for the local 23-year-old Milledgeville icon.
Owner Frank Pendergast has been meticulous to honor and compliment the existing community plans for the revitalization of College Hill and Downtown. “Watching the growth and evolution of Macon's core is the main reason The Brick decided to open a second location,” said Frank. He is genuine in his dedication to being part of the bright future for Downtown.
“We are building ‘The Brick Macon,’ not ‘The Brick’ in Macon, balancing the history of the people and place with the things that make The Brick authentically unique,” Frank noted. The space features more concrete and metal than the original location, but it honors the historic Macon neighborhood.
Hiring 60 employees (5 current employees recently relocated to Macon), the new location will also offer a boost to downtown Macon jobs.
“Doing our best since ’93,” said Frank when asked if there was a mantra that drives The Brick. That best is clear in the College Hill location’s efforts to keep it local from the ground up. The 250-seat, 5,300 square-foot space is the product of 90% local labor and more than $850,000 of the total project cost being retained in Macon.
The Brick Macon intends to be a community gathering place featuring outdoor seating and live music with built-in sound and light systems. “When we share a meal or a drink together, we come to a more intimate level. We hear customers say, ‘That’s my Brick,’ and it seems to feel that way when you walk in the door, like you stepped into your favorite neighbor’s house,” Frank said with a smile.
Plans include nightly programming and entertainment featuring local musicians, guest bartenders, and monthly menu specials.
