Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Thursday, April 14th, 2016

The Board of Directors of Sheridan Construction announced the election of Christy Kovac as the company’s new president and Ronny Williams as CEO.  This makes Kovac the first woman to lead a major construction company in Middle Georgia.

Kovac has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry in both preconstruction and project management.  A Macon native, she began her career with Sheridan Construction more than a decade ago as an estimator. She was promoted to vice president of preconstruction in 2011 and was named executive vice president in 2014.

As president of Sheridan Construction, Kovac will lead day-to-day operations.

“Sheridan Construction’s culture of care in workmanship, customer service, employee support, and community involvement make this a vocation rather than a job,” she says. “Our good name is something that I am proud of and dedicated to.”

A Macon native, Kovac earned a construction management degree from Georgia Tech and an MBA in finance from Mercer University.  She chairs the Associated General Contractor’s Central Georgia Workforce Development Alliance and is on the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity board.  She is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional, a member of the U.S. Green Building Council Central Georgia Branch Leadership Group and a member of the Downtown Macon Rotary Club.

Mr. Williams, who was elected CEO,  will oversee new business opportunities and the strategic vision of the company.

“We have such a talented team here,” Williams says.  “We’re 100-percent employee owned which gives everyone a powerful motivation to learn and grow.  Being in a position to spend time sharing all I’ve learned in 44 years in the industry  - 34 of them here at Sheridan Construction - is not only fun, it makes me feel like I am taking care of my own family.”

Williams joined Sheridan since 1982. A Johnson County native, he graduated from Georgia Southern College with a degree in industrial management.

Williams is active in the Macon area outside of work as well. In the past, he has served as president of the Freedom Park Girls Softball Association, where he was a board member for two decades. He also served as president of the Macon Tennis Association board, served on the boards of the Georgia State Fair and Macon Exchange Club. He is currently a member of the Cannonball House board of directors. Williams received the John Drew Smith Memorial Award for outstanding service to tennis. His volunteer work also earned honors from the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association for spearheading improvements at Freedom Park and at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center.

“I take pride in earning the trust of our customers, subcontractors, and in being an active member of our community here in Macon,” Williams says. “Providing positive experiences for our clients and the lasting relationships that result is what the Sheridan tradition is all about.”

Chris Sheridan, Chairman of the Board commented:  “Christy fully understands the culture of our organization and will use that as a base to further our growth.  I am excited about the direction she will take us, and I am thrilled that Ronny Williams now has the time to devote to mentoring and  training the next generation of leaders in our firm. We are very lucky to have such top notch individuals heading Sheridan Construction.”
