Dr. John Williams Performs First Robotic Hernia Surgery in Qatar

On March 6, 2016, surgical history was made in the country of Qatar when Dr. John T. Williams, IV, general surgeon on medical staff at Coliseum Medical Centers, performed the first robotic hernia surgery using the da Vinci XI robotic surgery system.  Over the three days that Dr. Williams was in the country, he performed six inguinal hernia repairs.
 
Dr. Williams said, “Working with the physicians and patients in Qatar is one of the highlights of my career.  It was such an honor to be part of the great team to bring the da Vinci XI to Qatar.”
 
Dr. Abdulla Ali Asad Ansari and the Hamad Medical Corporation invited Dr. Williams as guest surgeons to teach using the new equipment.  He will return to Qatar for additional teaching.
 
Dr. John T. Williams, IV, is a board certified surgeon who specializes in single incision and multi-port minimally invasive surgical procedures.  He has received numerous honors and awards and has been published in several peer-reviewed journals.  He currently serves as a host surgeon for Intuitive’ s Mentoring Center for Robotic Surgery at Coliseum Medical Centers, where Dr. Williams will teach surgeons from across the country to use the da Vinci robotic system.
