CGTC Student of the Year Wins Scholarship

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Friday, April 29th, 2016

Central Georgia Technical College’s student of the year, Terri DeLong, was recently awarded an all- inclusive scholarship to attend the 2016 American Society of Radiologic Technologists Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting in Las Vegas in June. DeLong was one of two students in Georgia to be selected for this award.

Students from across the country, two per state, were awarded the scholarship based on an essay submission where applicants explained how they would grow professionally by attending the conference. DeLong’s essay detailed how she’d like to take an active role in the ASRT organization to represent her profession well. Additionally, she discussed the desire to broaden her knowledge base of the newest breakthroughs in the radiologic field, issues, and concerns of ASRT. “Finally, I would like to network and meet people who share my enthusiasm and desire to shape our profession for the next generation of technologists,” DeLong stated.

DeLong is no stranger to achievement. In Fall 2015, she received the Amy Holloway Scholarship at the Technical College System of Georgia’s annual Career and Leadership Development Conference for students. In December, after a rigorous interview process, she was selected from among her peers as the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership winner for CGTC. She went on to participate in the region competition and finished as a finalist for the state GOAL award in April.

Students attending the ASRT conference will participate in many activities including carrying their state flag in the parade of flags, attending classes, and participating in delegate meetings with cohorts from their home state.

DeLong added that participating in the conference “will give me a boost of confidence and a feeling of being part of a whole by representing ASRT.”

DeLong is set to graduate May 6 at CGTC’s Commencement Exercise at 7 p.m. at the Macon Coliseum. As the College’s GOAL winner, she is the student representative selected to speak at the ceremony. After graduation, she hopes to secure employment at a local hospital in emergency room radiology.

Summer semester begins May 17 and new student registration is now open at CGTC. New students should apply now for admission and financial aid to be ready to enroll in classes. For more information, visit www.centralgatech.edu or call (478) 988-6800.
