The United Way of Central Georgia is partnering with the Atlanta Hawks to host a basketball and cheerleading clinic March 4 from 4pm to 6pm at Miller Middle School, 751 Hendley Street, Macon.  The basketball portion of the event will feature Atlanta Hawks Alumnus Mario West and Atlanta Dream Head Coach Michael Cooper. The workshop will be for boys and girls ages 7-15 as part of the new Jr. NBA initiative and Jr. Hawks program which currently ranks second in the NBA for participation rates.   The clinic is designed to give young people basic basketball and cheerleading fundamentals, while encouraging academic achievement and success and teaching the value of important life skills such as teamwork.

“We want to express our deepest thanks to the Atlanta Hawks organization for agreeing to work with us on these clinics,” said George McCanless, President & CEO of United Way of Central Georgia.  “We feel this is yet another way to reach the youth in our community with the vital message about how important academics and working with others can be to their future success.”

The Atlanta Hawks are a sponsor of the Georgia High School Association Championship for basketball taking place at Macon Coliseum March 3-5. “We are excited to bring the Jr. Hawks program to kids in Macon and make lasting impacts in communities around the state” states David Lee, Senior Vice President, External Affairs Atlanta Hawks.
